Meiringen is an atmospheric, quiet village that is located 595 metres above sea level in the Bernese Oberland region. Meiringen-Hasliberg ski resort can be reached by lift from the village. In good snow conditions, it is possible to ski back from the ski area to the village. Meiringen is situated at a low altitude, but has good connections to the ski and hiking areas. Meiringen has been around since the 19th century as a popular international holiday resort.
In addition to being a popular winter resort in Switzerland, Meiringen is also known because the famous crime writer Arthur Conan Doyle used it as a setting for one of his famous Sherlock Holmes novels. The famous crime writer had spent a holiday with his wife here in the English Court Hotel (now Hotel Du Sauvage). In memory of the writer and his hero a Sherlock Holmes museum now stands in the former English church of Meiringen; a true place of pilgrimage for lovers of this genre!
The Meiringen - Hasliberg ski area lies in the Bernese Oberland region. In total, the area has about 60 kilometers of slopes. In recent years, many old lifts have been replaced and new and fast chairlifts and gondolas placed in this area. The beautiful slopes are generally quite flat and wide which makes this area ideal for beginners and families with small children.
Meiringen- Hasliberg has in the last few years become known among Dutch families, because the winter Telekids program has been filmed here. The scenes were shot in central Bidmi, where a section is designed for small children and beginners. Quite special.
In this quiet ski resort you will not find lively Après-ski, but you can have a nice drink after skiing in one of the cosy bars or restaurants. If you're looking for beautiful, wide slopes, beautiful mountain scenery and authentic restaurants where you can enjoy delicious meals, then you've come to the right place .
