Skiing in Zillertal

General information

In the heart of Tyrol, you will find the popular Zillertal Valley. With over 500 kilometres of slopes to discover, it is not only one of the widest valleys in Austria, but also one of the most popular ski areas. Zillertal has it all: cosy villages, quaint shops, soothing spas, a vibrant après-ski scene, and the best ski schools for children and beginners. This versatile ski area offers something for everyone!

Zillertal Ski Area

Zillertal Valley is divided into 4 different ski areas: the Hochzillertal ski area, the Zillertal Arena, Zillertal 3000, and the Hintertux Glacier ski area. Regardless of the weather conditions, the Hintertux glacier offers guaranteed snow, giving you peace of mind during your ski holiday. All of the ski areas in Zillertal are accessible with just one ski pass, the Zillertaler Superskipass, which will be included in your package if you book with Sunweb!

You can also use the ski busses and the Zillertalbahn for free with your ski pass. That means you’ll have the freedom to visit several resorts within just one ski trip. The Zillertalbahn runs from Jennbach to Mayrhofen and stops at several fantastic resorts along the way.

Lively après-ski or family fun?

If you are looking for a lively après-ski atmosphere, then either Mayrhofen or Gerlos are the best places in the Zillertal for you. For families with small children, Köningsleiten or Fügen would be an excellent choice of destination. Each part of the Zillertal has its own characteristics and advantages. Gerlos, Köningsleiten, Hochfügen, Hintertux, Finkenberg, and Lanersbach are all at a higher elevation and feature a valley slope. That means, if there is enough snow, you can ski all the way down the valley and into the centre!

Zell am Ziller now also has a valley slope, which is almost 10 kilometres long. On this fairly challenging piste, you will drop almost 2000 metres in altitude from the top all the way down into the valley. In Mayrhofen, you will find the steepest slope in Austria: the famous Harakiri run. You will also find one of the most modern gondola lifts in the world, the Penkenbahn, which has an amazing view over the Zillertal. The Hintertux Glacier has the most snow-sure slopes, a great fun park, and many off-piste trails. You can ski a beautiful route from the Zillertal 3000 ski area to Lanersbach and then back to the Mayrhofen ski area.

Dining and dancing

In addition to well-maintained slopes, you will find many excellent mountain huts throughout the Zillertal. By almost every ski lift and the end of each slope, there is an atmospheric restaurant, bar, or terrace. In most mountain huts and restaurants, cooking is done using seasonal, local ingredients. Home-baked bread, self-smoked ham, and the beloved Zillertal beer: everything is of top quality! Enjoy incredible regional specialties, refreshing drinks, and music made to dance to.
