Sestrière

Staying in Sestriere

Sestriere is located in the heart of the impressive Via Lattea ski area, which is right on the border between Italy and France. This high-altitude Italian ski resort sits at 2035 metres elevation and owes its cosmopolitan appearance to its luxurious spas, exclusive shops, excellent restaurants, and sunny terraces. There is a range of high-quality accommodation in Sestriere, with something to suit every skier’s tastes. Would you prefer a cosy chalet, a luxury hotel, or a spacious apartment? You get to decide on every detail of your Sunweb ski package.

The resort was given a major makeover for the 2006 Turin Olympic Games and is still often used as a location for the World Ski Championships. You can even ski under the stars in Sestriere, as it features a floodlit run for night skiing. It also has one of the best artificial snow systems in the Alps, so you won't have to worry about the snow forecast during your ski holiday.

Via Lattea: the ‘Milky Way’ ski area

The extensive Via Lattea ski area features 400 kilometres of piste, with a high number of red and black slopes for advanced skiers and snowboarders. However, there are still plenty of blue slopes for beginners to enjoy. Sestriere is an excellent starting point from which to explore the rest of Via Lattea, thanks to its fast connection to Pragelato. With the Via Lattea ski pass included when you book a Sunweb ski holiday package, you can explore the whole area to your heart’s content.

Map

Via Lattea

The Via Lattea ski area consists of the towns of Sestriere, Sauze d'Oulx, San Sicario, Cesane and Claviere. The meaning of its name is the 'Milky Way'. With 400km of slopes, it is the largest connected ski area in Italy. It is right on the border between Italy and France, and its highest point, Mont Motta, is 2823 metres above sea level. Overall, it is a very diverse ski area, with numerous slopes running through forests.

If you book a holiday in Sestriere, you will get a ski lift pass that will give you access to 1 day of skiing in Alpe d'Huez, Les Deux Alpes, Serre Chevalier, and Puy St. Vincent, and 1 day of skiing in the Montgenèvre ski area. Your hands-free ski lift pass will detect which ski area you are in so you will not need to worry about a thing! Take advantage of the access to these extra areas and get the most out of your lift pass! Its large variety of slopes makes this area ideal for both beginners and experienced skiers. There are 89 ski lifts in total there, so it will be easy to get around without catching a ski bus.
