Valmeinier

Valmeinier consists of the authentic and traditional village of Valmeinier 1500 and the more modern Valmeinier 1800 built especially for winter sports. This village is built alongside the piste and offers plenty of entertaining options. The hotels and apartments are predominantly built in chalet style. The lively village square of Valmeinier 1800 has numerous restaurants, bars and terraces. on Wednesday evening you can ski on the illuminated piste between 5 and 6.30 PM (on Monday evening during school holidays).

Valmeinier is also an ideal base for hiking tours into the area. Various hiking trails have been set out in the natural surroundings. There is a fun park with a boarder cross and a half pipe for snowboarders.

Galibier Thabor

Together with Valmeinier, Valloire in the French Savoie forms the largest ski area in the Haute Maurienne, the Galibier Thabor. More than three quarters of the 150 km (93 ml) of pistes are located at Valloire and this is the place to be for the real ski and snowboard fanatics. The 150 km (93 ml) of pistes are suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers and snowboarders. Since this is a relatively new resort, it is also equipped with a modern ski lift system. The resort of Valmeinier is connected to the resort of Valloire by cable car. From Valmeinier 1800 you can make great tours via Valmeinier 1500 to Les Verneys and Valloire and, of course, in the other direction too.

Together, Valloire and Valmeinier have 40 km (25 ml) of cross country skiing tracks ranging in difficulty and snowboarders can test their skills in the snow park which also includes a half pipe.
 
A tip: in the village of Orelle, approximately 25 minutes drive from Valmeinier, you can catch the ski lift to Val Thorens, which is part of the biggest interconnected ski area of Les Trois Vallées. If you want to ski or snowboard here for the day you need to pay approximately € 40,- on location.

It is not likely that the service charger will be added to the bill automatically. If you are pleased with the service you can round off or leave a tip of 10%.

Mobile:

A UK mobile phone should work in France. The setup for this may differ per provider, so it is best to inquire about this before hand.

Safety on the slopes:

In France, wearing a helmet is not mandatory but recommended (especially for children). In ski classes (for all ages), it is often compulsory.

Travel documents:

You must be in possession of a valid passport in order to travel to France.

Food and Drinks:

Cheese, croissants, baguettes and wine! It is possible to drink tap water.

Opening hours:

As a general rule, the shops are open on Monday/Friday from 09:00 to 19:00. However, some shops may close over lunchtime. On Sunday and Monday, a selection of shops are closed. Some supermarkets are open on Sunday mornings.

Travelling by car:
Most motorways in France require you to pay a toll fee. The Pas Piccolo San Bernardo is closed the whole winter (November - June). Always check the locat weather reports before departing.

In some cities and towns it is obligaroty to have a "environmentsl sticker". It is not possible to buy these stickers en route. You will have to order them online before you leave home. French authorities advise you to print out the form and the confirmation of the sticker if it does not arrive at your home in time. You can find the form on:

Lift pass, lessons and ski/board hire

A Galibier Thabor ski pass is included in the holiday price.

You can see the surcharges and discounts for extending your ski pass or no ski pass in step 1 (preferences) of the booking process. Ski passes for children up to 4 years old are free. These discounts can be found in the calculation of your travel sum. Identification is required when collecting your ski pass.

Any surcharges and discounts are only valid upon booking. Other rates are applied locally. It is not possible to redeem your ski pass on another day onsite. An extension of your ski pass can often be booked as an extra; you will find the price for this further in the booking process. A discount for “no ski pass” can also be found during the booking process.

Silver

This is ideal equipment for intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The equipment is manoeuvrable and suitable for cutting corners sharply. Even at high speeds, these skis provide great performance.

Gold

These skis and snowboards are made of high-quality material and are perfect for experienced skiers. They can also be used by skiers who have mastered parallel skiing. This comfortable equipment is suitable for all track types and snow conditions.

Diamond

These are high performance skis and snowboards with the latest technology and are suitable for the most experienced skiers.
