Has Saalbach caught your eye? With everything it has to offer, it’s no wonder that it’s such a popular skiing destination for travellers to Austria. You can explore to your heart’s content in the Skicircus that connects Saalbach to the Hinterglemm, Leogang, and Fieberbrunn ski resorts. This interconnected ski area has an incredibly efficient snow cannon system, so you won’t have to rely on the snow forecast. Whether you’re strapping on skis for the first time or have been on the slopes since you were small, with more than 250 kilometres of diverse runs to discover you’ll be spoilt for choice. It is also connected to the Zell am See - Kaprun ski area, which brings the total up to over 400 kilometres of well-maintained pistes waiting for you. With Sunweb, your ski lift pass will always be included, so you can ski without limits.
After a day out in the fresh alpine air, there’s no feeling quite like coming home to your own cosy hotel room, chalet, or apartment. With Sunweb's wide range of accommodation, you can tailor your ski holiday to suit you. Simple or luxurious? All-inclusive or self-catering? Right in the centre or somewhere peaceful? You get to choose. Whether you are planning a trip with friends, the whole family, or a last-minute romantic getaway, you’re sure to find exactly what you’re looking for.
Picture a clear blue sky, radiant sunshine, and the smell of fresh pine trees and snow. Who could ask for more? Nonetheless, Saalbach is happy to provide! Aside from its impressive number of slopes, it is also no exception to Austria's lively après-ski scene and has plenty of popular mountain huts and atmospheric bars. If partying isn’t your thing, why not soak up the winter sun from the comfort of a horse-drawn sleigh? It’s the perfect way to spend some quality time with the family or to enjoy a romantic tour through the snow. Your fun on the slopes doesn’t have to end when the sun goes down either. Make memories to last a lifetime with tobogganing under the stars or a torch-lit trail walk.
There are few areas as popular with ski enthusiasts as the Skicircus Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogang-Fieberbrunn, in Austria. And of course there is a reason for that: its ski area is very diverse, its villages are beautiful, and its après-ski scene is fantastic. That’s not to mention its abundance of accessible and thrilling slopes.
Saalbach and Hinterglemm are two charming villages that have grown considerably in recent years but have managed to retain much of their original charm. This is particularly true of Saalbach, where you can still enjoy a cosy and car-free main street. You will find many traditional hotels and apartments in both villages. There are plenty of luxury four- and five-star hotels, but there are also plenty of more affordable hotels, apartments, and guesthouses. Leogang and Fieberbrunn are a lot quieter and are especially popular with families. The ski area there are not too difficult and are free from crowds, and the villages are authentically Austrian.
The Skicircus alone has 270 kilometres of slopes and is one of the largest ski areas in Austria. You can also ski in the Schmitten family-friendly ski area, where you will find several themed runs for children. Finally, you can also go to the Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun. This is the only glacier in Salzburg and offers a 100% snow guarantee, 365 days a year.
The Skicircus is the hotspot in the Austrian Alps. Whether it’s for skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, winter hiking, or cross-country skiing, there’s something for everyone in Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogang-Fieberbrunn. And if there’s one place where the après-ski scene is alive and kicking, it is in this area. The après-ski festivities often start on the slopes there. In fact, for many ski enthusiasts, having lunch at one of the many mountain huts is a great reason to have their first schnapps. Don’t miss Goaßstall, Bauer’s Schi-Alm, Hinterhag Alm, and Underbar, the most popular venues in the area.
The arrival of the new Zell am See Xpress, which connects the Zell am See-Kaprun ski area to Viehhofen, has created a large new area: Ski Alpin. Viehhofen is connected to Saalbach via ski busses. In the future, a ski lift should soon be built to connect Viehhofen to the Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogan-Fieberbrunn ski area, so that the Ski Alpin area is completely interconnected. At the moment, there is already a blue run in the Skicircus that will take you towards Viehhofen. From there, you can take the Zell am See Xpress to Zell am See-Kaprun. To get back to the Skicircus from Viehhofen, you can catch a ski bus.
You will not find many challenging black slopes around Saalbach and Hinterglemm, but it is easy to get around on skis. The villages are well connected to each other, making it a breeze to explore.
The Alpine Skiing World Championships will soon be held in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. The training sessions and competitions for this will take place from February 4th - 16th, 2025. Don’t miss out on this spectacular experience!
