Founded in the 13th century, Kiel was largely destroyed during the Second World War. Today, this port city offers lots of greenery and was rebuilt on top of a complicated past, which can be explored at the historic landmarks and museums, including the marine memorial and a German U-995 submarine.
Cruise holiday to Kiel
Stroll along the waterfront promenade and enjoy picturesque views of the port and Kieler Fjord, or take a trip out of town along the waterway to explore picturesque villages and sandy beaches.
Kiel is a perfect place for a relaxing cruise holiday in Germany: simple and peaceful, even during the international regatta Kieler Woche, an event that every sailing enthusiast has to see for themselves. The city only has a couple of museums, which can be visited in just one morning. But to really get to know Kiel, you have to see the waterways that connect the city: just walk down the Kiellinie walking street or take a boat tour of Kieler Förde, which also passes the canal.
A spacious promenade by the pier boasts all kinds of vehicles for you to admire, such as the sailing school's rubber boats, and the best view of Kiel from the wet dock in front of the school.
Kiel is a nice port to visit during a cruise holiday in the Baltic Sea.
