Cruise trips to Alaska begin or end in one of two towns near Anchorage: Whittier or Seward. Travelling between Whittier or Seward and Anchorage is easy. Both are connected by road and rail. Whittier is about 60 miles southeast of Anchorage, a drive of about an hour and a half. Seward is about 120 miles southeast of Anchorage, about a three-hour drive on the Kenai Peninsula.

Many cruise companies offer transport from these ports to Anchorage, and many local companies also offer cruise transfers. Consider scheduling some extra time for the transfer day; there are many sights and activities worth visiting along the way.

You can also board the Alaska Railroad. Passenger trains depart daily for Anchorage from both cities, and the train is a memorable way to get to your destination and enjoy some landmarks along the way.
