Green Certification label for Responsible Tourism
Saint François Longchamp is now one of the 12 resorts with the Green certification label. This label, created in 2013 by the Mountain Riders association, guarantees the sustainable commitment of mountain tourist destinations. No less than 20 criteria are required to obtain it: governance, transport, energy, development, water, waste… divided into 4 themes:
- Local economy- this means that the destination supports and strengthens the local economic initiatives.
- Social & Cultural- the destination promotes local heritage and sustainable development for both its visitors and inhabitants.
- Governance & Destination- the destination actively has a shared policy to guide and monitors its development sustainably.
- Environment & Natural resources- recycling, water management, energy management and respect for biodiversity are all followed by the destination.
Choosing Saint François Longchamp means supporting responsible tourism! The ski resort has also carried out several actions in this direction:
- The development of activities, play areas, and well-being, to diversify its tourist offer.
- A new media library and two libraries to complete its range of services dedicated to families.
- The “Tictactrip ” application, this promotes intermodality and allows holidaymakers to travel while respecting the environment.
- Eco-responsible grooming: thanks to training in eco-driving, adaptation of the width of the slopes according to the number of skiers, and monitoring of consumption by machine. These measures have reduced fuel consumption by 20%.
- Revegetation of 2,300 hectares of the ski area with endemic seeds, as well as protected areas for black grouse, a vulnerable species in the region.
- Promotion of local products: The new concept La Terrasse “Food & Chill” by Labellemontagne, allows holidaymakers to grill local products themselves.
Sylvain Girard, director of the Saint François Longchamp Tourist Office: “At a time when global awareness of the importance of preserving our environment is stronger than ever, it is extremely reassuring to note that our destination is participating in this decisive movement for the future. A responsible future from both a social and economic point of view: the preservation of our mountains implies the mobilization of all for a collective result that will first and foremost serve future generations so that they can continue to benefit but also live from our mountains. It is with this primary objective that we have our sustainable building development strategy, enabling us today to obtain the green certification label: a collective approach for the good of all while respecting our values and our natural heritage. Saint François Longchamp is thus making a real bet on the future by proving that humans will be able to learn from the lessons of the past to co-construct tourism that respects its environment and its inhabitants. »
