When you think skiing, you think après-ski. For many people, the thing they look forward to most on a ski trip is enjoying a drink together by the slopes after skiing or snowboarding. Austria is a particularly popular destination, thanks in part to its great après-ski scene. To help you find a resort that suits you, we’ve compiled a list of the best après-ski spots in Austria. Which is your favourite?
1. Gerlos
Gerlos has been one of the most well-known and popular destinations amongst skiers for years. It is one of the highest villages in Zillertal and is therefore very snow-sure, but the village is known best for its après-ski scene. It is full of atmospheric bars, restaurants, and nightclubs to choose from, where the party doesn’t stop until the early hours. Many well-known artists and DJs regularly perform in Gerlos during the ski season.
2. Ischgl
For the very best après-ski bars in Austria, you won’t want to skip a trip to Ischgl. The slopes in this area are great, but the après-ski scene is even better. It is not for nothing that this resort is often referred to as the ‘Ibiza of the Alps’. From trendy bars to steamy nightclubs, Ischgl has it all. The beer starts to flow early at the mountain lodge Paznauner Taja, all whilst the biggest hits and old favourites blare over the speakers. Don’t miss a visit to the Kuhstall or the Trofana Alm during your holiday either, or you’ll miss out on the ultimate après-ski party. Cheers!
3. Sölden
Known for many major international ski competitions, the village of Sölden is located in Ötztal. You will also find the ‘big three’ there: three mountains above 3000 metres, all of which can be reached via ski lift. After visiting them all, you’ll have earned a drink. Fortunately, there are plenty of options there to choose from. Sölden has the perfect combination of cosy lodges by the slopes and larger clubs down in the valley. Whilst taking a break from skiing or snowboarding, you can easily grab a drink at Eugen’s Obstlerhütte for example. If you still have the energy to dance afterwards, you can head to Fire & Ice, Sölden’s most popular nightclub. You can party until you drop there!
4. Kirchberg
Kirchberg should not be missing from your après-ski wish list. It is located in the Kitzbühel Alps and there are few ski villages that can match the fun of its après-ski scene. Besides the fact that its slopes are very well maintained, the village also has a welcoming, international atmosphere. Major artists from all over Europe regularly perform there. Boomerang is one of the most popular pubs in Kirchberg, but don’t just take our word for it. When are you going to check it out for yourself?
5. Mayrhofen
In addition to Gerlos, Zillertal has another card up its sleeve. One of the best après-ski spots in Austria is Mayrhofen. On top of its thrilling slopes, the atmosphere in Mayrhofen is buzzing with energy. There are so many fantastic venues there that you will hardly know where to start. The Ice Bar is a popular choice, but the Pilzbar or Brück’n Stadl will also make a great start to your evening. Don’t want the night to end? Take your pick of one of the many nightclubs in the village. Don’t forget to pack your dancing shoes!
